New York based indie-pop band, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, have announced an upcoming three-track EP to be released on November 13th. According to Spin, the album consists of one original which will be accompanied by two covers. Formed in 2007, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is made up of bandmates Kip Berman (vocals/guitar), Christoph Hochheim (guitar), Jessica Weiss (keyboard/vocals), Jacob Sloan (bass) and Anton Hochheim (drums). The band self-released their first EP in 2007 and has been together ever since.
The covers that have been recorded for Hell were originally written and performed by the band’s main musical influences, Felt and James. The James cover, “Laid,” has already been released on Soundcloud. The cover features a collaboration on vocals with Jen Goma of A Sunny Day In Glasgow. Have a listen below.
With three albums under their belt, there have been multiple outtakes in the past. Berman recently uploaded a few from their most recent album, Days of Abandon, to Soundcloud. One of the demos that did not make the cut for Days of Abandon is also titled “Hell.” Ironically, despite its name, the song is an upbeat dance number that leaves you wanting more.
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are currently on tour with upcoming shows in London and Japan, and they will be performing at Singapore’s Neon Lights Festival in November. The indie-pop band has seemingly become a festival lineup go-to over the last couple of years, with performances at SXSW and Coachella.
