The Weeknd, Abel Tesfaye, has pleaded no contest to charges of allegedly punching a police officer in the head last January and will now avoid any jail time. Tesfaye’s decision to plead no contest means he accepts the charges but does not plead guilty or offer a defense.

According to reports, the incident is said to have taken place at the Cromwell Hotel in Las Vegas around 4:20 a.m. on January 10. Enforcements arrived when Tesfaye was in the middle of the fight. In an attempt to restrain Tesfaye, an officer was allegedly punched.

Tesfaye is required to pay $1000.00 to the injured police officer, complete an anger management course, undergo alcohol evaluation and perform 50 hours of community service.

Since last January, The Weeknd has announced 2015 Tour Dates and several headlines for festivals like Made In America Festival, BumberShoot 2015, and Austin City Limits. In addition, The Weeknd released music video for “I Can’t Feel My Face” and collaborated with Lana Del Ray for one of the tracks, “High By The Beach” on the latest album.
