Mark Kozelek, or Sun Kil Moon, has recently released a tribute song for Arthur, Nick Cave’s deceased son. The song is from Kozelek’s collaborative album, Jesu, which will be available next year. Mr. Cave’s son, Arthur died from multiple injuries after falling from an overpass in England, July 23 of this year. Arthur Cave was only 15 years-old at the time of his death. Mr. Kozelek made a tribute cover of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds “The Weeping Song” following the teenagers death. It was a tribute song to remind Nick Cave of the special bond that he and his son Arthur shared, which helped Mark Kozelek’s relationship with his father overcome emotional struggles and learn to live life through the harsher times.
The single “Exodus” has nothing to do with the bible, but does have some reference to the passing of children. This song is meant for anyone who has lost a child and how hard it is to live life without that one bit of happiness that usually greeted you when you come home or when you would tuck it to sleep at night and scare away the monsters that lurked under their beds. For some people, the pain becomes too much to bear and often live their life stuck in the past, wanting to find a way to bring their little one back. The ten minute track is an ode to anyone stuck with this grief and this feeling of loss and emptiness. We may not be able to save all of the children in the world, but sometimes we try our best to save the ones that we hold onto with all our might.
