Last night Bay Area shoegazer’s, Whirr posted scathing comments about the trans-feminist punk-outfit, G.L.O.S.S. on Twitter. Not long after the onslaught of transphobic-insults breached the lines of the popular social-media site, the band’s record label, Run For Cover followed with a formal-statement issuing Whirr‘s contractual release.
While well-known for their fondly-familiar shoegaze-sound in the vain of such bands as: My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Ride, these San Francisco players will now be looking for a new home to house their material.
Although the original tweet-thread, hatefully-aimed at the Sadie Switchblade led punk-troop, G.L.O.S.S. has since been removed, here is what the members of Whirr posted:
Lol @ G.L.O.S.S.
– Whirr(@free_whirl) October 17, 2015
@toothlessmile there is literally nothing not hilarious about that “band”.
– Whirr(@free_whirl) October 16, 2015
@samufiser misogyny is hating women. g.l.o.s.s. Is just a bunch of boys running around in panties making shitty music.
– Whirr(@free_whirl) October 19, 2015
After delivering disparaging statements about the band, Whirr switched gears into issues on suicide:
@briannaocs we could put on dresses.
– Whirr(@free_whirl) October 20, 2015
@elohellie lol attempting suicide. If you’re gonna do it, do it right the first time.
– Whirr(@free_whirl) October 20, 2015
@elohellie @ShieldExhile nah, that’s an actual stance on suicide. My mom committed suicide why can’t all these trans kids get it right?

Having gained a distinct-reputation for their aggressive approach on social-media in the past, founding guitarist, Nick Bassett has displayed his perspective on how this negative-image might effect record sales:
“I’d be stoked that we didn’t suck anyone’s dick as a band and were just real dudes being real. If we weren’t selling records anymore, that would be a wrap for us.”
The band’s most current negative behavior has caused both Run For Cover and Graveface to drop them from their label and alienate them from any known-association altogether:
We as individuals and as a label are accepting of all people and require the same from the bands and people we work with…

We will not be working with Whirr from this point on and do not support that behavior in anyway. We will post a full statement tomorrow. — Run For Cover (@rfcrecords) October 20, 2015
G.L.O.S.S. is awesome and crucially important and we need more bands like them.

According to Nick Bassett, the damaging tweets were produced by a friend of the bands’ who allegedly had access to their Twitter account. The bassist states he will handle all of Whirr‘s social-media affairs from here on out.
