In honor of her fervent support for this years: Black Friday Record Store Day, folk-singer/songwriter, Rhiannon Giddens will drop a new EP, aptly titled: Factory Girl on November 27. Brought to you by Nonesuch, the record serves as a delightful follow-up on the heels of her critically acclaimed solo debut, Tomorrow Is My Turn.
Having first made a relatively large splash as the lead-singer and multi-instrumentalist for the Grammy-award-winning, country-blues outfit, Carolina Chocolate Drops, this Greensboro native began trekking out on her own terms, creatively in 2013. Widely hailed as the greatest-performance at what also garnered a stunning reputation as the: “concert of the year,” Rhiannon Giddens lent her given talents to: “Another Day, Another Time.” This was a concert inspired by the Coen Brothers film, Inside Llewyn Davis.
While culled from the very same sessions that born, Tomorrow Is My Turn, Giddens sought the masterful-guidance of legendary producer, T Bone Burnett to apply his seasoned “eyes” and most notably, “ears” toward her soulful music. Assembled by Burnett himself, a multi-generational section of players rounds-out the titular album and EP. Factory Girl issues the likes of: percussionist Jack Ashford from Motown’s infamous Funk Brothers; veteran Nashville session bassist, Dennis Crouch; Gabe Witcher on the fiddle; guitarist Colin Linden tickling the strings as only he can; Jay Bellerose hammering-it on the drums, and an entire slew of other gifted players fleshing-out some superb noise via record.
Giddens will continue touring in support of her latest album and EP on November 6 with Carolina Chocolate Drops in her corner.
