UK New Wave outfit, Squeeze are back on the scene with their first full-length album since 1998. Affectionately titled: Cradle To The Grave, the LP will promptly drop November 13th via Virgin Records.
Making their virtuous-splash into the New Wave music realm in 1974, Squeeze is comprised of the premier songwriting duo, Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook. While Chris provides the personal-lyricism, Glen composes the musical-melodies and together they were widely hailed as: “the heirs to Lennon and McCartney’s throne” during their heyday amidst the 1980’s.
Over the years the band has seen its fair-share of turbulent-times, resulting in an acrimonious break-up, but since officially reforming in 2007, after years of solo-work and touring by both members, Squeeze finally culled-together a catchy batch of songs they’ve cultivated through the years over the ever-changing music market.
Glenn Tilbrook reveals the band’s approach: “We reformed Squeeze in 2007. Things went so well, here we are eight years later. Four years ago we agreed that if we were to carry on, we really needed to work on new material.”
“Happy Days” is a clever little ditty featured on the new record:
“We’ve grown up a lot in the last few years, musically. We still love and own our past, but as musicians we needed to grow,” says Chris Difford of Squeeze’s brand new-songs.
Cradle To The Grave marks the band’s 14th-studio release, featuring fresh new music recorded for the BBC drama-series of the same name. The television series is based on Danny Baker’s autobiography: Going To Sea in a Sieve.
