After an extended twenty-one year sabbatical, it appears multi-faceted British producer/vocalist, Tricky will once again join the ranks of the genre-defining Trip-Hopper’s: Massive Attack.
Having first cut-his-teeth with the likes of Massive Attack during their early/formative years, the Bristol native left the trio to embark on solo-career, warranting the release of his highly-acclaimed LP, Maxinquaye in 1995. The record, named after his mother, who committed suicide under the torment of epilepsy complications, died when Tricky was only four-years-old. The release spawned an on-going collaborative partnership with premier-vocalist, Martina Topley-Bird; her name would become synonymous with Tricky’s work over the years.
While he hasn’t officially worked together with Massive Attack since 1994, talks of an imminent reunion have been breaching the rumor-mill as far back as 2009. The two dynamic-forces allegedly buried the hatchet and came together to peruse creative contributions after a show in Paris in November 2009.
There were also pictures of Tricky and the trip-hop crew hard at work-together in the studio released on Facebook by Massive Attack frontman, Robert “3D” Del Naja in 2012:
During an interview with The Metro, Robert Del Naja filled us in with the latest news concerning their latest collaboration: “The idea is to put a record out next year’, he says. ‘We actually get on really well at the moment because we don’t spend time in the studio together’, he says with a wry grin. ‘Me and Tricky wrote some new tracks in Paris last year, which haven’t seen the light of day yet – but that was fun. They should be on the next album.”
Helmed on the promise of brand-new music to come in the not-so-distant-future, Massive Attack will take their seasoned dog-and-pony act on the road come this winter. The tour is scheduled to pop-off in January at Dublin’s own: Olympia Theatre. Be on the lookout for great things to come.
