Jenny Lewis and Annie Clark, St. Vincent, take the stage in Texas and cover “Groove is in the Heart.”

Jenny Lewis and special guest St. Vincent played slot together at the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music and Love in Marfa, Texas. According to NME, St. Vincent helped by playing backing drums and guitar, along with some vocals. They would go on to play a number of different songs that would mostly include tracks from Lewis’ vault but also included a cover of Deee-Lite’s “Groove is in the Heart.”

The cover was just as upbeat and funky as the original version. The song was sang by David Garza, Lewis and St Vincent while the entire band was grooving with the audience. The groove was definitely in the heart of the band during a “dance off” with all the performers. Each member was a different contestant in the mock competition. Aside from the very entertaining performance, the cover was done with a lot of respect for the original version and one goal in mind, to have a good time. The performance can be seen below.

St. Vincent and Lewis both came out with new albums last year. St Vincent’s Digital Witness tour has since wrapped up, but she will play Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit concert in Mountain View, Calif., on Oct. 24 and 25, along with Spoon, Ryan Adams and more. Lewis is set to play a couple of concerts with Young in Las Vegas and La Jolla, Calif., on Oct. 11 and 13.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
