Mogwai Announces New Album Central Belters

As the 20th anniversary of Scottish post-rockers Mogwai fast approaches, the band has announced it will release a three-CD project that features the best highlights and rare tracks over the course of its successful career. Central Belters is due out on October 23 via Rock Action Records and will include pieces from Mogwai’s debut 1997 album, Young Team, all the way through last year’s Rave Tapes, which was the band’s first top 10 record.

Most recently, Mogwai released an EP at the end of last year that featured songs that came out of recording sessions for Rave Tapes. Titled Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1., the EP also included three remixes.

The band got its start in Glasgow in 1995 and currently consists of guitarist and vocalist Stuart Braithwaite, bass player Dominic Aitchison, drummer Martin Bulloch, keyboardist and gutarist Barry Burns and guitarist and computerist John Cummings.

The press release for Central Belters states that the compilation “follows a run of acclaimed sell-out nights at Glasgow Barrowlands and London’s Roundhouse in June.” It also details that additional celebrations of Mogwai’s 20th anniversary will “include the launch of a limited edition Mogwai gin in conjunction with The Good Spirits Company and a collaboration with Focus Scotland on a series of limited edition skateboard decks and t-shirts.”
