Halsey debuts the music video for “New Americana” last night, September 25, on MTV. Following the premiere, the video will go into regular rotation on MTV/MTV Hits and MTV2 along being live on VEVO.
The video was directed by JODEB, who’s worked with Tinashe and Zedd, and filmed in Hawaii. The video gives off a post apocalyptic feel with every scene portraying her lyrics. It starts off with a woman lying on the floor while Halsey walks through the shadows into the city. Halsey is pictured walking through an underground scene, posing as if she is about to go fight in a ring. Scenes from different characters go through while the song progresses ending with Halsey being taken away by some type of military figures. The scene really looks like it could be straight out of “Hunger Games”. The video then turn into “American Horror Story” very quickly as the military figures pose to burn Halsey on a stake. Inevitably she escapes and everyone that was involved in the underground scene flees to the woods where we meet the woman who was introduced in the beginning of the video. The video is virtually like a short film, taking you for a ride with every scene that takes place.
Halsey’s debut album BADLANDS, landed at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, arriving only second to her fall tour mate The Weeknd. Halsey herself goes on Fall headline tour starting September 30 and will make a few appearances opening for the Weeknd throughout his tour. In addition, BADLANDS, was the countries #1 Alternative Album upon arrival.
