James Mercer and Danger Mouse from band The Shins, collaborated to form the band Broken Bells. Now the band is coming back with the single “It’s That Talk Again.” The four minute single is the frst song since the duo’s After the Disco album that came out last year. The single also came out two days before the Palladia announcement of the concert film Broken Bells: Live At The Orpheum on Saturday.
The single, based on its title, is like a couple having done the same talk multiple times. The woman claiming that age is getting to her or the way she looks after children is depressing to see, but the husband is coaching her through the moments where she just stops at the mirror and looks ashamed, telling her over and over again that she is the prettiest woman he’s ever married. The single is actually from the recording days of last year’s album and it’s about the duo’s disco dance vibe that they have tried and to recreate.
While both Mercer and Mouse have been doing their own thing after the album, they have been working on making their own music, but the film is also another way of saying that these two guys are all about making music that is catchy, perky, and fun to dance to. Mouse has been working with Adele on her new album and has recently opened up his own record imprint, 30th Century Records.
