WATCH: The Libertines Release New Video For “The Heart Of The Matter”

The Libertines release the video for their single “The Heart Of The Matter,” from their album, Anthems for Doomed Youth. Recently, band member Father John Misty was doing drugs and making out with himself in the band’s video for their other single “The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartment.” But this newest video involves the band members beating each other senseless.

The video is like the final scene in the movie, Fight Club, where the alternate ego Tyler, is in fact someone the main character made up due to his insomnia. The main character also made up the people in the Fight Club because he was only beating himself up, which you see a small clip of the self-beating when he is trying to get out of his job. But that is exactly what the band members, Pete Doherty and Carl Barât, are doing throughout this video. The video begins with the two frontmen beating up two guys to a bloody pulp and a crowd of people are watching and filming for fun, later in the clip the two other guys they beat up was just the two men who started the fight in the video.

The director of the video clip was Roger Sargent and stated that the video was more about the abuse inflicted upon band members Doherty and Barât that they did themselves and how it took over the years. It is more a surprise that these men are still alive today, according Sargent, but the video is supposed to be dark and twisted to better emphasize the problems that the men had during a portion of their life.
