With the wait of her acclaimed album Divers, Joanna Newsom has released a new song from the album entitled “Leaving The City”.
The album is set to be released October 23rd. Until then Newsom has released her single “Sapokanikan” and now “Leaving The City”. Newsom constantly reminds us how powerful she is in making melodies. The song begins with the harmony of the harp and her soft voice opening the song, almost like you’re walking into the gates of heaven. “Leaving The City” is a roller coaster of sound, taking you deep into the melody and bringing you back again with the soft sound of the harp. She is an all-in-one woman that proves to break the barriers each time she releases something new. Although she was on hiatus for about 5 years she kept busy by appearing on episodes of Portlandia and appearing and narrating in the film, Inherent Vice. She had also appeared a number of festivals including Treasure Island in 2012 and the Pitchfork Music Festival the following year.
Her last album release was in 2010 with Have One On Me, so it’s safe to say Divers is long overdue. The album arrives just in time for her European Tour which begins on Halloween. Joanna Newsom continues to remind us that you can bake your cake and eat it too.
