As Radiohead is working on a new album, the band’s singer and principal songwriter, Thom Yorke, has continued to release his own music. Yorke’s latest effort is a new song, called “Villain,” which premiered during New York Fashion Week.
“Villain” was heard on the runway at New York Fashion Week, when Rag & Bone rolled out their fashion collection for 2016. And, this isn’t the first time that Yorke worked with Rag & Bone on a collection, NME reported, that he had provided “music for them in both 2011 and 2013.”
This new song comes in at just over eight minutes long, and it is a largely instrumental track. However, there is a special guest appearance by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, which is comprised of over 200 students from around New York City, according to Billboard. The Brooklyn Youth Chorus provided a series of oohs that were layered over a sparse piano line, and taken together, these elements brought out an eerie quality that is found within Yorke’s melody. Apart from the piano and the Youth Chorus, there are some electronic instruments and percussive parts that have been added near the end of the eight-minute piece, before “Villain” fades away.
