The Academy Is… recently played a highly-anticipated reunion set at Riot Fest in Chicago. So it was inevitable that news of a reunion tour would follow. And, for Philadelphians, it’s a welcome relief to see that The Academy Is… will be headed our way this December as part of the upcoming 10 Year Anniversary Tour. The band is celebrating the release of their debut studio album, Almost Here, which was, you guessed it, released 10 years ago. Tickets for this one go on sale tomorrow, September 18th at 10AM.
The Academy Is… will take the anniversary tour on the road beginning on December 4th, when they’ll play Lake Buena Vista, Florida. By December 12th, they’ll be here in Philadelphia for a show at The Trocadero. Support for the upcoming tour comes from Partybaby. The Chicago-based pop-punk band made a name for themselves in the 2000s with tracks “Checkmarks” and “Everything We Had.” Following their Fueled By Ramen release, the band toured with acts like Fall Out Boy, Something Corporate, and Motion City Soundtrack.
Their debut release hit number 7 on Billboard‘s Top Heatseakers chart and number 16 on the Independent Albums chart. Following their debut, they released Santi in 2007 and Fast Times at Barrington High in 2008. But on October 8, 2011, the band announced their break-up. At the time, they released a statement that said, “…we look back at the records we’ve made, the shows we’ve played, the places we’ve been. The people we’ve met. The Academy Is…has made its mark. We celebrate the experiences of our past, as welcome what lies ahead.” Thankfully, what lied ahead was an eventual reunion, and you can see it for yourself this December at The Troc!
