Twin sister act Ibeyi has released a music video for “Stranger/Lover.”
The video stars the sisters singing their harmonious song, which essentially describes the end of a relationship and the woes of letting go. Both vocalists are singing to the camera against a black background, having the hands of who could be deemed the “stranger,” the “lover,” or both. The hands play with their hair and cover their faces throughout the video; making gestures that symbolize the lyrics, as a spotlight rotates against them. ‘Stranger/Lover/Come heal in my arms.’
Ibeyi released their latest album Ibeyi back in February and has been named as one of the best releases of 2015 by NPR. The group previously released a single from the album, “Exhibit Diaz,” which is a reinterpretation of Jay Electronica’s “Better In Tune With The Infinite.”
