What do you get when you combine Led Zeppelin’s bassist John Paul Johns, Queen drummer Roger Taylor and all of the Foo Fighters? Dave Grohl simply stated it best as a “superdupergroup.”
This wondrous event took place at the Milton Keynes National Bowl on Saturday night which would have also marked Freddie Mercury’s 69th birthday. Grohl was just as excited as everyone in the audience saying, “I don’t know if y’all have ever seen a supergroup. This is a ‘superdupergroup.’ I don’t even know what to say because this kind of s— doesn’t happen every day. Let me just tell you that the Foo Fighters, right now, are living out our rock n’ roll fantasy with you tonight.” Together they performed a cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure” with Taylor playing the drums and Jones on keys. The video above is shot from a fan in the audience.
Grohl and Jones were previous bandmates in the Josh-Homme led supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. These rock alumni don’t make appearances commonly. Their presence that night was appreciated after the Foo Fighters had to cancel their gigs after Grohl’s foot incident. The group is mid-way through their tour and still have shows running until mid-November. Grohl performs high atop a throne during the shows while his foot heals. Hopefully he can be up and running, physically, towards the end of their tour.
