Soundgarden Announce They Are In The Studio Working On A New Album

It’s official, Soundgarden is back in the studio working on new material.

The Seattle rockers had been talking about the possibility of working on a new album, since February 2015, according to Loudwire. And, as recently as last month, Loudwire reports that the band’s frontman, Chris Cornell, said that Soundgarden was “already working on new material.”

In a February interview with Loudwire, the band had expressed hopes of releasing a new album sometime in 2016, but no official dates, or even a more concrete time frame, have been released at this time.

This week, the band provided fans with the first glimpse inside the studio via a Facebook post. Their post consisted of a photo of Cornell sitting opposite the band’s drummer Matt Cameron, and both men have guitars in their hands in this newly released behind the scenes photo. It is captioned: “working on new material this week.”

Since 2014, Soundgarden has been making waves in music that are keeping the group in the forefront of their fans’ minds. In that particular year, the band released a series songs that were new, or previously unreleased, and they went on to release new music video for “Storm,” which was one of the aforementioned songs. And, Soundgarden went on to co-headline a 2014 tour with Nine Inch Nails, which featured support from The Dillinger Escape Plan, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Cold Cave.

Earlier in 2015, Soundgarden performed at Australia’s Soundwave Festival. And looking ahead, frontman Cornell will be releasing his first solo album, Higher Truth, on September 18th, 2015, according to Loudwire, and he will tour in support of that release until the first part of November. Higher Truth is now available for pre-order on iTunes.
