The reformation of influential alternative band Failure has turned into a foursome- bringing ex-member Troy Van Leeuwin on their upcoming tour.
The current Queens of the Stone Age guitarist joined Failure just after the release of their 1996 album Fantastic Planet, and stuck with the band up until their 1997 breakup. He then went on to work as a session musician and played with bands such as A Perfect Circle.
A statement via Facebook from Failure vocalist Ken Andrews reads:
“This is a very special tour to me for a couple of reasons, one reason is the fact that we have some very cool bands joining us: Hum, Torche, Local H, And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. The second reason this tour is so special to me is that we have managed to secure our dear friend and former band mate, Troy Van Leeuwen as the fourth member of Failure for this tour. I’m personally excited by this as it’s going to allow us to expand our live sound and repertoire. Think “Snow Angel” and “I Can See Houses” from The Heart Is A Monster, as well as a few gems from the past like our cover of “Enjoy The Silence.”
Failure reunited in 2013 and released their latest album The Heart is Monster earlier this year, and closed up their summer tour in San Francisco just this week. The group has been noted to have a heavy influence on bands of various genres, from Speedy Ortiz to Stone Temple Pilots. AJ Maddah, the founder of Soundwave festival, took the time to tweet about the band’s upcoming appearance at the Australian festival and their influence on him as well, stating ,”Getting Failure to play Soundwave 2015 is my personal definition of success! Fantastic Planet changed my life.”
