Pigeons and Planes reported that David Bowie will allegedly be writing songs for the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants musical.
The English artist is often known for both his eclectic style and popular songs like “Fame,” “Starman,” and more recently, “Sue (Or In A Season of Crime)” and “’Tis A Pity She Was A Whore.”
While Bowie may seem like a surprising addition to the roster, true SpongeBob fans will know it’s actually not that surprising. In 2007, Bowie lent his talent to the cartoon by voicing the character of Lord Royal Highness.
Other big name artists joining Bowie in the writing process include Steven Tyler, The Flaming Lips, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper and more, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The musical, directed and co-conceived by Tina Landau, will premiere at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre from June 7 – July 3. It will then head to New York for the 2016-17 Broadway season.
