As the first foreign band to play a concert in North Korea, Laibach have added more to their resume, with the release of a new video for “We Are Millions and Millions Are One.”
Directed by cross-media collaborative RÁTNEEK, “We Are Millions and Millions Are One,” shows a mixture of stop-motion animation of several unidentifiable settings, which come from Vuk Jevremovic’s film “La Isla De Los Muertos,” and clips of the bands vocalists Mina Špiler and Milan Fras performing the song in black and white and silhouetted sceneries.
Laibach formed in the early eighties as a five-piece protest group a part of the political art collective Neue Slowenische Kunst. Since then the band has had interchangeable members and have released over fifteen albums, including Beatles cover albums and full-length soundtracks for a 1987 adaption of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The band claimed commercial success in the 1990’s with their album Kapital.
Prior to their seemingly arbitrary North Korean escapade, which setlist most interestingly enough consisted of interpretations of songs from the musical The Sound of Music, the industrial band toured throughout the U.S. and released their album Spectre in 2014.
