Frontman for influential Irish group, The Frames, Glen Hansard just premiered the video for his latest cut, “Lowly Deserter” at the Wall Street Journal. The single is from his forthcoming album, Didn’t He Ramble, set to drop September 18, courtesy of Anti-Records.
Of the origin for the video, director Myles O’Reilly explains, “My initial idea was to squeeze Glen and his full band, brass and all, in to a small room of a house that closely resembled the home in which was reared. It was Glen who then suggested we film children interacting with the house and the neighborhood. Whether Glen intended it to be a poetic and metaphorical visualization of his youth, or whether it was just a plain bonkers idea. It had to be done! And so the start gun sounded and our resources were pulled together almost effortlessly.”
“It was a relief I could give him the answer he wanted, and that I had the bones of an idea,” said O’Reilly.
Known for his acting abilities, Hansard starred in the BAFTA-winning film: The Commitments(1991), directed by Alan Parker and Once(2007), in which he also contributed some of his best-original music.
Hansard’s latest solo-outing, Didn’t He Ramble is critically-acclaimed to be his best work since the music he created for Once. The record was produced by Thomas Bartlett, known for his work with Sufjan Stevens and The National, and former Frames band-mate, David Odlum. Fleshed-out through Irish-folk nuance and intrigue, it features special-guest appearances by: Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam, and Dubliners’ John Sheahan.
Glen Hansard seeks to shop this new-record with an impressive Fall-tour through North America, including stops at: Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the new Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, and Chicago Theatre in Chicago.
