Majical Cloudz Video Director Accuses The Weeknd’s Video Director Of Plagiarism

Last Month’s “Can’t Feel My Face” video, as performed by R&B crooner, The Weeknd, has come under some serious scrutiny concerning its striking-similarities to Majical Cloudz unreleased video.

About a year ago, video-director, Mitch Moore collaborated on a video with electronic/indie-pop project: Majical Cloudz.  Due to undisclosed creative-differences, the video never reached the light-of-day and the two collaborators went their own ways.  Although the video never surfaced, Moore equates the size of the production as large and made quite an impact, resulting in a multitude of feedback-emails.  He alleges that a prominent figure in the industry must have seen the unreleased edits and taken creative-liberties.

“It’s come to my attention that somebody (sic) at the helm of a certain popular video must have seen one or more of these unreleased edits, “Mitch Moore writes.  “The resemblance is too uncanny.  My mind is a mansion of creativity, so this petty theft is nbd to me.  BUT I”M STILL CALLING THE POLICE!!”

While neither The Weeknd nor the director of the “Can’t Feel My Face” video, Grant Singer have opted to respond to Moore’s allegations, Majical Cloudz(singer, Devon Welsh and producer, Matthew Otto) acknowledge the claims as ridiculous and laughable.  They indicate the video’s premise is generic and utilizes universal themes and techniques.

for the record I didn’t accuse The Weeknd of stealing our video lol, this is laughable. Our original video idea was very generic

For Any Concerned Journalists: I have made no accusations to anyone whatsoever, the director of an aborted project is dragging me into this

Even amidst the controversy, The Weeknd’s star still rises.  The Canadian soul-singer is set to embark on a show-stopping tour this Fall, beginning in early November in support of his latest effort, Beauty Behind the Madness via XO/Republic Records.  It’s set for release this Friday, August 28.  If you can’t wait that long, here’s his latest video-morsel to wet your appetite: “Tell All Your Friends.”
