North Carolina-native synth pop band Future Islands will be performing at the Fox Theatre Pomona on September 24. The band consists of Gerrit Welmers (keyboards and programming), William Cashion (bass, acoustic and electric guitars), and Samuel T. Herring (lyrics and vocals).
After releasing a couple of singles in 2012, the band remained quiet until the announcement in late 2013 that they had signed with indie label 4AD. Their first album for the label, 2014’s Singles, was an accessible synth pop album produced by the prolific Chris Coady. The band gained a whole lot of attention within the indie rock community when they performed one of the album’s highlights, “Seasons (Waiting on You),” on Late Night with David Letterman. The band’s performance that night became an internet success and garnered millions of views on Youtube.
The group’s latest album Singles charted high on the U.S. Top Alternative Albums and the U.S. Top Rock Albums, peaking at #10 and #11 respectively. To witness Future Islands live, check them out at the Fox Theatre Pomona next month.
