CHVRCHES is set to release their sophomore album, Every Open Eye, on September 25th. In anticipation for this they have released a pair of singles: “Leave A Trace” and “Never Ending Circles”. Now they’ve released the first music video in support of the album.

In the video Lauren Mayberry, the lead singer of the Scottish synth-pop trios band, shows us again how she rose to become one of indies most charismatic frontwomen. Mayberry is accompanied by the rest of the band but stands center stage throughout the video. Mayberry shows us her sultry, sexy side with the upmost confidence a woman can give off while in the midst of clouds and water. The video stays very angelic and simple which is fair game when it’s paired with such strong lyrics. When a song starts off with “I gave up on time just like you said you would,” you wouldn’t really expect anything short of a dramatic video.

When Mayberry is being the charismatic frontwoman she is, she’s usually responding to misogynistic comments on the internet. After the video was dropped a 4chan thread decided to leave a few comments aimed at Mayberry. One of them read, “Gonna jack off to this later thanks,” and the other comments went along that road as well. Some comments would be objectifying Mayberry and others would blame the band for intentionally playing up their sexuality instead of featuring the other two male members. The Scottish singer has responded via Twitter saying, “Dear anyone who thinks misogyny isn’t real. It is and this is what it looks like.” The official CHVRCHES account also stepped in to tweet, “PSA: apparently wet hair makes you a ‘slut.’ Nice work, 4chan/humanity.” This isn’t the first time Mayberry has had these comments thrown at her, so it was no surprise that she felt so comfortable responding to them.

Make sure to catch Lauren and the rest of the band on their Fall 2015 Tour starting August 21.
