LISTEN: Lana Del Rey Releases New Song “High By The Beach”

Lana Del Rey has released the second single from her upcoming album, Honeymoon. The title track came out in July, followed by “High By The Beach” last week. Listen to the track on Spotify below:

Consequence of Sound reported on an earlier interview Del Rey had with Zane Lowe, where she discussed the feel and inspiration behind “High by the Beach.”

…Del Rey described the track as having an ‘Andrews Sisters vibe,’ mixed with a trap influence. She noted that it was one of the last songs written for Honeymoon and was inspired by her many drives by the coast.

The slow, bass-heavy track is definitely a twist on songs from previous albums, but the theme and melodies are true to Del Rey’s unique sound. The slow motion, aesthetic-turned-action video features Del Rey in a long, flowing night dress at a beach house, running from and then shooting up a helicopter with a weapon retrieved from a guitar case. After finishing up her North American spring tour, Del Rey (and her fans) have been anticpating the release of Ultraviolence‘s follow-up. The album is set to drop on September 18th, as she announced in an Instagram post from last week:

Detailing the album back in May, Del Rey said in an interview with Billboard that Honeymoon is “very different from the last one and similar to the first two, Born to Die and Paradise. I finished my last one [Ultraviolence] in March and released it in June and I had a follow-up idea. It’s growing into something I really like. I’m kind of enjoying sinking into this more noirish feel for this one. It’s been good.”
