Wilco @ Stubb’s BBQ 9/29

Wilco is an alternative rock band based in Chicago, Illinois. The group chose their name from the military and commercial aviation radio voice abbreviation for “will comply,” stating the title was “fairly ironic for a rock band to name themselves.” Taking influence from a variety of artists, including The Beatles and Bill Fay, the band merges alternative rock with classic pop through experimenting in sound.

Their debut studio album, A.M., was released back in 1995. Since then, Wilco has gone on to writing a total of nine records. Their most recent work includes their self-released album, Star Wars. As a well respected band of over twenty years, this record received high reviews and multiple five-star ratings. The Rolling Stone compares the album to being “like a steel-wool security blanket.” The contrasting styles in their songs flow together in making music listeners cling to.

Today, the group is described as being “one of America’s most consistently interesting bands.” While Wilco takes inspiration from a mix of sources, many bands also look up to these long-time rockers. Wilco will begin touring with William Tyler in the upcoming fall.
