Drive-By Truckers is an alternative country-rock band based in Athens, Georgia. They began with singer/guitarist Patterson Hood luring member Mike Cooley “back into the fold” in 1996. With a revolving group of musicians in their lineup, the band was able to focus on releasing their first two albums, Gangstabilly and Pizza Deliverance. Soon, the band took off on their first nationwide tour and exploded into their long-lasting career in music.
The group recently released their tenth studio album, English Oceans, through ATO Records. This marks their first Southern Rock album where songwriting was split between Hood and Cooley alone. With positive feedback and numerous spots on charts around the world, the record was also named fifth best album of 2014 on The Barns & Noble Review.
Lead vocalist and guitarist Cooley comments, “this lineup is so direct. It can go from this chainsaw rock ‘n’ roll to very delicate, pretty-sounding stuff. We wrote a lot of those kinds of songs, and this lineup got all of that well.” Even with occasional changes in the band, Drive-By Truckers always delivers bold music for their global fanbase to enjoy.
