As October inches closer, Wavves have been releasing new songs off of their forthcoming album V. Today, the band have shared their opening track “Heavy Metal Detox.”
“Heavy Metal Detox” certainly strays away from the direction the band had made with “Leave,” their release for the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack. The song is more pop-oriented, but only by a slight degree. Wavves have always supplied quirky, upbeat songs that balance between the garage rock and pop-punk spectrum and “Heavy Metal Detox” keeps that intact, but with an underlying theme. According to the press release for V, the energy while recording the album was, “A lot lighter and not as drunk” as on prior records, as V became something of a conduit for the kinds of feels that they wouldn’t usually feel comfortable talking about,” and most of the album regards the members issues with substance withdrawal and agoraphobia.
Wavves have also released “Flamezesz,” and “Way Too Much” from the new album. The band will begin touring throughout North America supporting V next month.
