It’s been 5 years since Joanna Newsom has released an album but she has announced the release date of her latest project, Divers, set to be out in October.  Divers seems to be a more compact album of 11 songs compared to her previous, Have One On Me, album having an 18 song track list.

Since releasing her last album 5 years ago, Newsom has made appearances on shows such as Portlandia and films such as Inherent Vice, which she also narrated.

With this announcement came the release of her first single and music video “Sapokanikan.” The music video runs for about 5 minutes so Newsom may be adding depth in places other than the track list this time around. Newsom teased fans with a video covering Sandy Denny’s “The North Star Grassmen and the Ravens” which we last covered 2 years ago in this article. We’re glad she’s been working hard since then to try to get us fans new music. “Sapokanikan” was directed by Paul Thomas who also directed Newsom in Inherent Vice. Below you can see Newsom frolicking through the majestic streets of New York. The video seems to set the tone of the direction the album will be headed.

A statement from the label website reads, “further along and down the road apiece from where she took her leave of us, Joanna Newsom plays on. Breathe deep and equalize your today-ears to the new world of..”
