Shannon and the Clams is an indie garage punk trio based in Oakland, California. Formed in 2009, the talented lineup consists of Shannon Shaw, Cody Blanchard, and Ian Amberson. The group incorporates early rock rhythms, psych bands, and a hint of R&B in their sound. Compared to Buddy Holly and 1960s girl groups, the band says they love “the music from the 50’s oldies to 80’s punk.”
This up and coming artist enjoys homemade recordings with the result of a big sound. “I like to keep it simple. Simple in the sense of not putting tons of work into forcing something to be polished,” says vocalist Shaw. In each of their shows, the trio adds a creative and colorful environment to match their strong performances.
Their third album, Dreams in the Rat House, combines elements of previous album in forming a “gruff tumble of rockabilly.” With two lead singers, Shaw and Blanchard, the group embraces their differences to make sharp lyrics and clever motifs in their music. As a reviewer once wrote, the band gives “inexhaustible generosity and a musical style with no equivalent.”
