FKA twigs just released single “Figure 8” via Zane Lowe’s Music Beats 1 radio show. This is the second song she has shared with her fans this year, the first being “Glass & Patron” along with a visual for the unique track. Both songs are going to be part of her up and coming LP, possibly titled Melissa, but the release date is still unknown.
FKA twigs, also known as Tahliah Debrett Barnet, is a British singer, songwriter, and dancer from Gloucestershire who started her music career as a backup dancer when she was only 17 years old.
The Verge called the newest song “menacing and mechanized” despite its “world of voguing” inspiration. Voguing is a stylized, modern house dance that evolved from the 1980’s Harlem Ballroom scene. Following the premiere of her new track, twigs sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe. She spoke about traveling through New York City with voguing legend Derek Prodigy who taught her about the revolutionary dance style. “I could practice my figure 8 in a mirror in the hotel room and listen to vogue music, or look at vogue legends on the Internet… I felt like it made me feel sane, and ‘Figure 8’ is a reflection on that, I guess” Twigs admitted.
Recently FKA Twigs has just finished up a hugely successful tour, performed at FYF Fest, Secret Solstice Iceland, Osheaga, and the Brooklyn Hangar.
