Hip-hop star and ex-member of OutKast Big Boi announced via Instagram that his collaborative album with electronic rock duo Phantogram has finally been completed.
“Big Boi X Phantogram Album Complete !!! Get Ready !!!!” said Big Boi.
In a 2012 interview with Fader, Big Boi explained how he originally discovered Phantogram.
“I discovered Phantogram’s music by chance, on a pop-up ad on the computer,” Big Boi said. “I’m closing out of a ‘You have just won a prize’ screen and ‘Mouth Full of Diamonds’ came on and I Shazamed it, bought the song, and then invited them to Stankonia [Studios].”
Big Boi’s first collaborations with Phantogram occurred soon after his discovery on his last solo album from that same year, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. The electronic duo appeared on three of the album’s tracks – “Objectum Sexuality,” “CPU,” and “Lines” with A$AP Rocky.
Two years later in 2014, the two artists began talking about joining forces to create an EP called Big Grams. However, Big Boi often spoke of ideas of turning the EP into a full-length project.
Aside from working with one another, both artists have been busy working on their own successes. Big Boi has recently released the first track off his Game of Thrones-inspired mixtape, “Mother of Dragons,” while Phantogram have been touring from festival to festival, including stops at The Roots Picnic, Mamby on the Beach, and Float Fest.
Now, after more than a year has passed, the Big Boi x Phantogram collaboration has finally been completed. A release date has yet to be announced.
