Psychedelic Metal band, Kylesa are set to drop their 7th full-length studio album, Exhausting Fire on October 2. Fresh under the scrutiny of anticipation, the band has released the first single, “Lost and Confused” to quench fans thirsts for new music.
Borrowing elements from such genre’s as: crust punk, stoner rock, and sludge metal, the natives of Savannah, GA have made quite a name for themselves throughout the noise out there. Plowing through sludgy riffs with drop-tuned guitars as they wander the waves of psychedelia to find their niche in form. Once a five-piece that housed two-drummers, Kylesa have trimmed-down to merely three tightly-knit remaining members: guitarists, Laura Pleasants, Phillip Cope, and drummer Carl McGinley.
As a follow-up to 2013’s, Ultraviolet, the new album, Exhausting Fire via Season of Mist, speaks clearly of the band’s intense trials and tribulations while touring on the road of existential-questioning. While no stranger to festivals, Kylesa have definitely made their splash at well-knowns over the years, such as: Psycho California, SXSW, and Southwest Terror Fest.
The band’s name, Kylesa, originates from, “kilesa mara,” a Buddhist term that denotes delusory mental states couldn’t be a more accurate moniker. Sifting from blurred-vocals between Pleasants and Cope, their vocals leave a trail of adequate-confusion juxtaposed with terse power-chords that can only be pulled-off by metal-engineers of the 9th-power. They know how to toggle back-and-forth between the sensibilities of electric-driven aggression and the hazy land of stoners. Once a band under the incarnation of Phillip Cope’s sole-direction, he’s been touted Savannah, GA’s “godfather of metal” for a reason. Their beginning saw a spectre of member-changes and musical visions as Damad in the 90’s, but notably became the band they are today after recruiting Laura Pleasants(of Savannah College of Art and Design) joined in 2001 to flourish into Kylesa.
