Australian singer/producer Nicholas Murphy, better known as Chet Faker, has recently joined forces with Los Angeles-based singer Banks on a new mix of his track called “1998.”
The track premiered on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music Beats 1 radio show. It can be heard on SoundCloud (below) or purchased on iTunes here.
The electronica artist has recently gained popularity as a result of performances on television, such as Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Ellen Degeneres Show. With a sold out spring headlining tour under his belt, Faker will soon continue touring at various festivals, including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, and FYF Fest.
The original version of “1998” can be found on Faker’s full length album Built on Glass, which was released in the spring of 2014 under Downtown/Future Classic/Opulent. The release featured Faker’s typical music for which he is known and loved – warm, smooth sounds with groovy, chill vibes.
Now, the track’s new release featuring Banks is still no exception to this sound. The song, written by Faker, tells the tale of a broken friendship filled with betrayal. Faker begins the song, with Banks later joining on the second verse. The two croon the troubled chorus together, perfectly in sync – “We used to be friends / You think you’re so inner circle / I don’t understand / It goes to my head.”
Though the song may address a heartbreaking topic, “1998” still manages to follow Faker’s funky footsteps.
