It’s no news that Weezer has been running the festival circuit, including Osheaga, 80/35 and recently announced the Pilgrimage Festival. However now, they’re gracing us with new material with their new video for “Go Away”, featuring Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino.
Be sure to take a look at Weezer’s new video for “Go Away”, featuring Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino. In classic Weezer fashion, they really took a comedic approach to their video poking fun at the dating app “Winder”. It tells the story of a guy really wanting to get the attention of this girl through a dating app with functions similar to the app Tinder. The protagonist goes through many aesthetic changes, from a punk rocker eating out of the garbage to a surfer man with a beach blonde wig.
He goes through tons of changes, with no luck from the girl he’s trying to impress (Bethany Consentino) who appears to be even more disgusted with each change he tries. Eventually, the genius idea comes to him to get his friend involved in a heroic fashion to retrieve her purse, which you’ll have to see how it ends in their new video for “Go Away”.
The track, on the album Everything Will Be Alright in The End has a refreshing sound that relates back to Weezer’s earlier albums. The direction the band has been taking is always changing, but it’s nice to see them go back to their original roots with some classic Weezer sounding tracks in this album. Teaming up with Best Coast’s Bethany Consentino was a great collaboration for both the track and the humorous video.
Weezer really does a great job with telling a story with this video, even if it’s a great funny tale that relates to modern day digital dating. The results are absolutely comical, keeping fans laughing as well as on board with the great track. You can’t help but love the stereotypes often seen in online dating websites and made fun of, and Weezer has done a great job with calling upon these widely recognized jokes to tie into their video.
“Go Away” is such a fun track on a wonderful album, and Weezer has really outdone themselves with the fun attitude of this video. With the group clearly being very busy with their domination of the festival scene to their creation of new material in their downtime, they’re making quite an effort to please their audience with some good old hard work. We can’t wait to see what comes next from the group, whether it be some energetic fun live performances, new material or anything really.
