The Canadian Indie-Rock group Metric is gearing up for their September 18th release of their new album, Pagans in Vegas. The group released a video for their new song off the album, “Too Bad, So Sad”. You can check out the video below on YouTube.
The video starts off with a simple introduction, futuristic, Tron-like text presents the groups name and song title for a few seconds before the action begins. The text fades into a similarly styled boombox which rocks back and forth for a bit before the camera angle changes and slides along the front of the boombox. At the chorus the video introduces its first splash of color, throwing the lyrics on screen in front of a multicolored exploding background of liquid color. The lyrics spin before fading out and giving way to the next set of words.
The video continues similarly before until a break in the songs action gives way to a moment that shines the spotlight purely on the songs instruments while the bands logo spins around, backed by old-school visualizer style art, the type of thing you would see if you were listening to music on your computer and were too bored to do anything else but stare at the lasers and bouncing triangles on your screen.
At this point the lyrics come back along with the boombox from before, giving us up close and personal views this time. Once the chorus rolls around, the lyrics appear similarly to before, though this time before disappearing they multiply, forming a background for the next lyrics. The video finishes with a cassette slowly moving toward the camera as different images flash by, some previously used in the video such as the visualizer triangles, and others that had yed to be introduced.
It seems that with this video Metric was trying to pay homage to visualizers of the past and perhaps even create a new style of visualizer for the future. The video’s theme is consistent for it’s entirety, and truly looks like something straight out of a media player.
In addition to releasing an their new album in September, Metric is releasing a limited edition cassette with four songs on it. Metric is currently on tour with Imagine Dragons.
