The word traveled fast about My Morning Jacket performing a surprise set at the Newport Folk Festival with Roger Waters. According to Jam Base, both Newport Festival veterans took the “unannounced” spot around 5:30 p.m. (EST). The Instagram page of @Teagoradio dropped a backstage shot of the dressing room signs side-by-side for Roger Waters and My Morning Jacket.
Consequences of Sound mentioned Roger Waters performed an all-acoustic set of Pink Floyd’s hit tracks including: “Mother,” “Wish You Were Here,” “Brain Damage,” and even a new solo track called “Crystal Clear.” Roger Waters paid homage to the 50 year anniversary of Bob Dylan’s prominent performance at the festival by performing famous covers of his songs, including “Forever Young.”
The full set list is as follows:
Crystal Clear
Mother (Pink Floyd)
The Bravery of Being Out of Range
Hello In There (John Prine cover)
Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd)
Wide River to Cross (Buddy Guy cover)
Amused to Death
Brain Damage > Eclipse (Pink Floyd)
Forever Young (Bob Dylan cover)
My Morning Jacket performed their set earlier in the day, and were also joined by members of Lucious for a few hit numbers. Roger Waters was set to perform later in the evening for his headlining set, and My Morning Jacket ended up adding some crazy rock flare to the rest of Waters’ set.
My Morning Jacket recently announced their Summer 2015 world tour dates which touched down July 21 at nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA featuring Lizzo.
