Kurt Vile Announces New Album And Releases New Video For “Pretty Pimpin’”

Back in the spring, it was announced that psych-rocker Kurt Vile was back in the studio recording his sixth full-length album, which follows 2013’s Wakin on a Pretty Daze. Now, the details of that album have officially been unveiled. Vile is scheduled to release his next record, b’lieve i’m goin down…, on September 25 via Matador Records.

Vile told Rolling Stone:

I wanted to get back into the habit of writing a sad song on my couch, with nobody waiting on me. I really wanted it to sound like it’s on my couch — not in a lo-fi way, just more unguarded and vulnerable.

Along with the announcement, Vile released the video for his first single, “Pretty Pimpin.” An acoustic and electric guitar-heavy track, Vile’s melancholy soul shines through. Set in Vile’s home amidst the palms of LA, the video provides the perfect scene for his droning about his mediocre lifestyle. Clones of Vile saunter throughout his house performing various activities: reading, strumming the guitar, making coffee. “But I’m going nowhere / Don’t worry ‘bout a thing,” Vile sings.

In support of the album, Vile will tour throughout the United States and Europe. He has already hit Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival this July, and will continue his slew of festival tour dates running through two weekends of Austin City Limits in October and Paris’ take on Pitchfork Music Festival. He will also make his way through Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle and Detroit. His European tour dates will include stops in Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin and Barcelona.
