Jim Jarmusch was right when he wrote that CocoRosie could be described as sounding “like two little Billie Holidays an octave higher if you were on acid in Tokyo in 1926.” The sister duo have perfected just that in their new singles “Un Beso” and “Heartache City” off their upcoming album that was announced today, also titled Heartache City, and set to be released on September 18th.
The sixth record for the pair was recorded in their farm studio on the south of France, much like their previous records, using “minimal equipment, vintage toys and antique instruments.” The recordings were finished in Buenos Aires, Argentina and mixed with engineer Nicolas Kalwill, whom which they worked with on two of their previous records. “The spirit of Buenos Aires added to our already teen-romance-nostalgic-mood where we spontaneously shot a music video casting over 30 local girls,” said the Casady sisters in a statement. A snippet of two other new songs “Hairnet Paradise” and Big and Black” are heard in a short “behind the scenes” video the group posted last month.
CocoRosie’s last album was 2013’s Tales of a GrassWidow.
