Glamour Awards man of the year and Forbes magazine’s highest earning DJ in the world Calvin Harris is back with his first track since releasing Motion, his critically acclaimed album that featured three platinum singles (“Outside Feat. Ellie Goulding”,”Summer”, and “Blame Feat. John Newman”). This time, Harris teamed up with electronic trio Disciples to deliver a catchy and danceable “How Deep Is Your Love”.
The song eases its way in with a simple repeating drumline that flows flawlessly into the beginning of the tracks vocals, which are about as melodic as the drumline. Only thirty seconds in you’re hit with the first bass drop, and simultaneously the powerful chorus of “How deep is your love / is it like the ocean?”. “How Deep Is Your Love” is the type of dance song that everyone can easily learn the lyrics to and sing along with whether it’s in the club or on the radio.
The song continues the same way for awhile before calming down a bit and adding in some extra robotic sounding vocals that add to the overall electronic aesthetic of the song. Almost immediately after this, “How Deep Is Your Love” builds back up for one last hurrah, ending with the two vocal tracks alternating before fading out to let the song end similarly to how it began.
If “How Deep Is Your Love” is any indication of what we can expect in the future from Calvin Harris, then it’s clear that we have a lot to look forward to. “How Deep Is Your Love” is the definition of a good club/dance song, the lyrics are relatable to most people and the music itself is easily danced to.
