Just a few days ago, The U.S. rock band, Battles, announced their third album, La Di Da Di will be available to the world via Warp on September 18, 2015. The unique trio will combine their musical innovations, characteristics and artistry to form an extra-ordinary sound. The Indie rock stars are comprised of guitarist/keyboardist Ian Williams of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress, guitarist Dave Konopka of Lynx and drummer John Stanier of Helmet and Tomahawk. The elements of their experience with other bands are an explorative teleported conglomerate of Wonka vision, but you can call it ‘Battles vision’. La Di Da Di is a follow up to their most recent project, Gloss Drop. Battles released their first full-length studio project, Mirrored in early May of 2007. Battles have dropped some epic EPs, singles and compilations through the years which have built them into the epitome of an experimental band.
Battles gave the world beat-boxing, wordless and protuberant vocals over some classic vinyl. One of Battles most critically-acclaimed and lengthy tracks on Mirrored was “Atlas”. The track was featured on the popular video game, LittleBigPlanet. The experimenting wizards can’t be categorized into one particular sound, they’ve reached a sky of no limits. It’s all about a network formation of technology and an electronic loop pulled from memory cells lapping over a really good invention that emerges from raw talent. The album artwork is just as complex and crave worthy. The cover consists of a banana protruding from a perfectly sized and cut watermelon to some really delicious looking pancakes with a healthy amount of butter on top of mixed fruit and yogurt (I’m hungry again). The artistic breakfast visual is a perfect description of what we can expect from Battles creativity through out La Di Da Di. They’re leaving plenty on the imagination and what fans can interpret from their organic rhythms, melodies and harmonies. Battles press release describes the name of the album as “a mushrooming monolith of repetition”.
Battles are headed on their Fall 2015 world tour which makes for a wonderful momentum builder to the release of La Di Da Di. The tour kicks off in Ypsigrock, Sicily on August 7th before playing their sold out show August 20th in St Vitus, NYC. The anticipated album La Di Da Di is available now for digital pre-order, CD or vinyl on Battles website.
