Mike Silverman, better known as That 1 Guy, is a solo act based in Las Vegas, Nevada. This one-man jazz band consists of a variety of home-made instruments. Silverman developed his career through the San Fransisco Conservatory of Music and progressed through a band he previously performed with, The Fabulous Hedgehogs. Later, he found his own style of music and explored his talents as a solo artist.
What started with a busy schedule of shows soon became Silverman’s breakthrough as a one-man band. He began making new instruments that would suit his sound better. Crafted by his own hands, the 7-foot-tall Magic Pipe was created. Along with this, he combines electronics, beatboxing, orchestral bass strings, and other distinct elements in making his music. His creativity is showcased in detail through all of his work. The debut album in 1996, Let’s Hear That 1 Guy, was re-released in 2009 with cover art made by Silverman. With an extensive imagination, Silverman offers a one-of-a-kind performance in each of his events.
Taking influence from Frank Zappa to Dr. Seuss, That 1 Guy forms a quirky but unique sound in his records. His music has reached mainstream attention through being featured on shows such as Weeds. His festival appearances have been a favorite by audiences looking for a refreshing act. Seeing Silverman and his home-made instruments is a truly unique experience in every individual show he performs.
