The Modern Sky Festival originated in China in 2007, featuring bands such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Snapline. Now, for the second year, the festival is coming to the United States with shows in both Seattle and New York
Gang of Four, the english post-punk who’ve been active since the 70s with a couple of brief breaks are playing Modern Sky Festival just months after releasing their eight studio album, What Happens Next.
Gang of Four has been an inspiration to many notable bands including The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, and R.E.M.
Another notable band that will be playing the Modern Sky Festival are The Black Lips, who were once known for provocative theatrics onstage including nudity, urination, and flaming guitars. Nowadays the band has calmed down a bit, but still put on a great show. Their seventh studio album, Underneath the Rainbow charted at #143 on the Billboard 200
The ever-eclectic Ariel Pink will also be playing the festival, adding some art-rock and psychedelic pop to the festivals lineup. Ariel Pink released his first album without his backing band in 2014. pom pom turned out to be a generally well accepted album amongst most critics.
The New York show is at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, while the Seattle show is located at the Mural Amphitheatre at Seattle Center.
