Death From Above 1979 announced via social media that they would have to cancel the first four live shows in their summer tour in the United States.
The Canadian band cited visa and immigration issues as the reason for the cancellations, and said that they would still be performing all of their other July and August shows. The cancelled dates include July 16’s show at Third Man Records in Nashville, July 17’s show at NorVa Theatre in Norfolk, July 18’s show at The National in Richmond and the July 20 show at Rock & Roll Hotel in Washington D.C. They also made note of the fact that they would make refunds available to those who bought tickets, or fans could keep their tickets to use for a re-scheduled show.
The cancelled Third Man Records concert was supposed to be a live album recording session, as Parquet Court and Benjamin Booker have done in the past, but that album won’t be happening at this point. On the bright side, Death From Above 1979 did release an acoustic version of “Virgins,” their most recent single from last year’s The Physical World. The single will be available as a “digital 7-inch,” which includes the original version of the track along with the new acoustic one.
The band released a video for the track “Virgins” in the spring. The video came shortly after the announcement that Death From Above 1979 would be joining as a special guest on co-headlining tour for Incubus and Deftones in July and August. In addition to those tour dates, the duo will be performing as part of the lineup for Corona Capital in Mexico City in November 2015.
