Snoop Dogg is facing a lawsuit from members of the Zoroastrian religious community, NME reports. The group is based in India. The charges? Smoking marijuana positioned upon a throne depicting a sacred religious symbol.
The video was created for Iranian-born pop singer Amitis’ track “King.” The rapper is seen puffing a joint while sitting on a throne with the ‘farahavar’ symbol behind it.
The Parsi Zoroastrian Association of Kolkata has issued to lawsuit in order to obtain the video. The scenes featured in the video upset many members of the Zoroastrian community, finding the images offensive and blasphemous.
A representative issued the following statement about the video:
The wrong use of religious and sacred symbols and iconography hurts, insults and outrages the religious sentiments and beliefs of Parsi Zoroastrians.
Snoop Dogg released his thirteenth solo studio album, Bush, back in May of this year. During his keynote speech at SXSW he announced that he is hard at work envisioning brand new HBO series detailing his experience in the neighborhood growing up as a black man.
