Mew’s Bo Madsen has departed with the band. In a statement on the band’s site, it reads that Mew and Madsen will “temporarily part ways.” The news comes after this past weekend when Mew played two shows without the guitarist in Europe, with Mads Wegner as his fill-in.
In our recent interview with the band, bass player Johan Wohlert stated, regarding the longevity of Mew, that:
“Without revealing our age, we’re approaching our 20th year of playing together and not that many bands survive that long. There are few, actually, and I think that’s a testament to the fact that we’re good at being together and we’re pretty good at facing the issues when they arise. As long as you can sort of maintain a respectable and honest relationship with each other, I think you’ll go a long way.”
No particular reason for Madsen’s departure was mentioned in their post. The full statement reads:
“After 20 years playing together in Mew, the band and Bo Madsen have decided to part ways for the time being.
At present the rest of us will continue with Mew.
We are happy to tell you that guitarist Mads Wegner will be joining us on our upcoming shows, and we look forward to seeing you all out there.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Jonas, Johan and Silas”
