Glen Hansard, member of The Frames and The Swell Season, has announced his second solo record, Didn’t He Ramble, released September 18 via Anti-Records. It will be his first in three years, succeeding his solo debut, Rhythm & Repose.
In anticipation for the album, Hansard has premiered the single “Winning Streak” via NPR. The video showcases a boxing arena, emphasizing the close bond that is created between coach and athlete. Hence making “Winning Streak” the perfect title.
Director Braden King said of the video in a press release:
For me, the song is about that struggle we all face in our own ways and about who has your back along the way. There is no end to it. We may get momentary rests along the way but they are fleeting. We all have to get up again and get back into the ring. And you know, sometimes, those who are the hardest on us are the ones who get us through. The way this turned out, the song kind of became the spirit of this place, the blood running through all these boxers veins. And I love the way in which Glen haunts and inspires it all.
Produced by Thomas Bartlett (The National, Sufjan Stevens), Didn’t He Ramble was recorded in New York, Dublin, Chicago and France. It features guest appearances by John Sheahan, Sam Beam and Sam Amidon.
Hansard recently paid tribute to revered musician Jason Molina in a tribute album titled It Was Triumph We Once Proposed: Songs of Jason Molina. He will also make his way through the U.S. on tour this winter in support of his latest album.
