The Theatre at Ace Hotel, Los Angeles, will be celebrating music and films all weekend during Sundance Next Fest, a festival fueled by the spirit of independent artists, taking place from August 7 to August 9. This summer’s Next Fest will feature six films that will make their L.A. premiere, each paired with a special music performance or a conversation with filmmakers and the luminaries that inspired them.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 7
At 8 PM, Sky Ferreira, who has quickly established herself as one of today’s most exciting new faces in music, film, and fashion, will take the stage. She first signed to Capitol Records at the early age of 15 where she eventually wrote and executive produced her critically acclaimed debut album, Night Time, My Time. As an actress, she has worked with many independent filmmakers including Eli Roth, Liza Johnson and Matthew Porterfield. Ferreira is currently recording her highly anticipated new album, Masochism.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 8
Get ready for music by singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten (solo). Following her 2012 break-through Tramp, last year’s follow up Are We There and her new EP I Don’t Want to Let You Down, Van Etten finds herself in full stride, writing, producing and performing.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 9
Who’s ready for an epic DJ battle between Neon Indian vs. Toro Y Moi? Neon Indian is the brainchild of Alan Palomo, and is defined by a unique electro-mangled sound which has attracted fans and opening slots before acts like Massive Attack, The Flaming Lips, Phoenix and Chromeo. Toro Y Moi is the guise of Chaz Bundick, who channels a wide swath of stylistic influences into his electronics-incorporating music and cites Big Star, Talking Heads and Todd Rundgren as some of his inspirations.
The home base for NEXT FEST is The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. Originally opened in the 1920s as the United Artists Theatre, the space symbolizes a coming together of independent artists and perfectly embodies the spirit of Sundance NEXT FEST. Make sure to be a part of this amazing celebration of independent music and films in what’s sure to be a very entertaining weekend.
