Journey’s now former touring drummer Deen Castronovo has allegedly been charged with rape and other offenses after initially being arrested for domestic violence.
Spin announced today that the original domestic violence charges against Castronovo have been expanded from allegations of assaulting his wife to charges of rape, sexual abuse, coercion and unlawful use of a weapon.
Castronovo was arrested earlier this month in his home in Oregon. He was charged with assault, coercion and menacing. He was released on bail for the original arrest, but now because of the new charges including rape and other offenses, he will now be held without bail.
According to a report by KOIN 6 News, the court documents include,
unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of menacing, one count of rape in the first degree, one count of sexual abuse in the second degree, four counts of assault in the fourth degree and one count of assault in the second degree, one count of coercion and one count of criminal mischief in the second degree.
This isn’t the first time Castronovo has been charged with assault. In June 2012, Castronovo was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and charged with several criminal counts.
Castronovo has been replaced on Journey’s US tour by jazz drummer Omar Hakim. He had been with the band since 1998. Castronovo is being held in Marion County, Oregon. He is due in court next Tuesday for a plea hearing.
